SETUP

Follow these steps in order.

  1. Allow Accessibility

    In Yapper Settings, choose Open Settings. Enable Yapper in macOS Accessibility, then return and choose Check Again.

  2. Choose your provider

    Choose xAI under Choose your provider.

  3. Add your xAI API key

    Sign in to the xAI Console, add API credits if needed, and create a dedicated key for Yapper with the smallest permissions available. Copy it, then return to Yapper and paste it into API key.

  4. Choose your narrator

    Choose a Voice, Language, Narration pace, and Delivery. Preview xAI Voices opens xAI’s voice page.

  5. Set playback

    Playback speed changes how fast Yapper plays audio on your Mac. Narration pace changes how xAI performs the text.

  6. Choose a keyboard shortcut

    Choose the shortcut button, then press the key combination you want to use in any app.

  7. Save and finish

    Choose Save and Finish. Select a short sentence and press your shortcut. This small test uses xAI API credit.
